One man was arrested and two firearms, along with quantities of ammunition and cannabis, were seized during police exercises conducted in the Southern and North Eastern Divisions between Thursday and Friday.
In the most recent incident, officers of the Southern Division Task Force attempted to intercept a vehicle in the Claxton Bay district around 12:30 a.m. on Friday. The driver allegedly failed to comply and a police chase followed, ending along the Caroni Savannah Road.
A search of the vehicle revealed 1.2 kilogrammes of cannabis hidden in the trunk. A 43-year-old man from Morvant was arrested in connection with the find.
Earlier, on Thursday, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., officers conducted anti-crime operations in the Santa Cruz and San Juan districts.
The operation was led by Senior Superintendent (Ag.) Carty, Superintendent Birch and Assistant Superintendent Callendar. It involved officers of the Santa Cruz Criminal Investigations Department, the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department, the North Eastern Division Task Force and the Canine Branch.
During the exercise, a Beretta pistol with a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition was found in a bushy area along El Carmen Road. A pellet gun was recovered in Upper Santa Cruz, while a quantity of cannabis was found along Saddle Road, San Juan.
