One man was ar­rest­ed and two firearms, along with quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion and cannabis, were seized dur­ing po­lice ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in the South­ern and North East­ern Di­vi­sions be­tween Thurs­day and Fri­day.

In the most re­cent in­ci­dent, of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force at­tempt­ed to in­ter­cept a ve­hi­cle in the Clax­ton Bay dis­trict around 12:30 a.m. on Fri­day. The dri­ver al­leged­ly failed to com­ply and a po­lice chase fol­lowed, end­ing along the Ca­roni Sa­van­nah Road.

A search of the ve­hi­cle re­vealed 1.2 kilo­grammes of cannabis hid­den in the trunk. A 43-year-old man from Mor­vant was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Ear­li­er, on Thurs­day, be­tween the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an­ti-crime op­er­a­tions in the San­ta Cruz and San Juan dis­tricts.

The op­er­a­tion was led by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent (Ag.) Car­ty, Su­per­in­ten­dent Birch and As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Cal­len­dar. It in­volved of­fi­cers of the San­ta Cruz Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment, the San Juan Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment, the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and the Ca­nine Branch.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, a Beretta pis­tol with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 15 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion was found in a bushy area along El Car­men Road. A pel­let gun was re­cov­ered in Up­per San­ta Cruz, while a quan­ti­ty of cannabis was found along Sad­dle Road, San Juan.
