Man charged with murder in Princes Town shooting

Nazrudeen Sookoor, al­so known as “Moko”, a 32-year-old labour­er from Princes Town, has been charged with the mur­der of a 57-year-old woman who was shot on 27 Jan­u­ary 2025 and died weeks lat­er.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), the woman was stand­ing at the front of her Cedar Hill Vil­lage home around 10.50 p.m. when a man en­tered the yard, fired sev­er­al shots, and ran off. She iden­ti­fied the shoot­er be­fore be­ing tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where she died on 18 Feb­ru­ary.

Po­lice lat­er ar­rest­ed Sookoor and re­port­ed­ly found him with a black and sil­ver Brown­ing 9mm pis­tol and an ex­tend­ed mag­a­zine con­tain­ing three rounds.

Fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions led by PC Bas­deo, and un­der the su­per­vi­sion of se­nior of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion and Homi­cide Bu­reau Re­gion III, a file was sub­mit­ted to the DPP. Deputy DPP Sab­ri­na Jaglal ad­vised that Sookoor be charged. He is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a mag­is­trate this week.
