A 29-year-old man is hospitalised after he was severely beaten and chopped during an early morning attack on Monday.
The man, of Charles Street North, Gasparillo, was found bleeding from multiple chop wounds after officers responded to a report at Baptiste Street.
He told investigators that around 12:25 am he was walking along Charles Street near Extraordinary Doors when a silver Toyota vehicle stopped and three men got out and attacked him.
The victim said he was beaten and chopped about his body with a metal object before managing to escape and hide under a tarpaulin on a nearby street.
He was taken by ambulance to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was treated for multiple chop wounds to his hip, neck, and head, as well as multiple fractures to his hands, hip, spinal cord, and skull.
He also suffered a brain laceration that caused haemorrhaging.
Investigations are continuing.
