A 50-year-old man was chopped and robbed of $30 while walk­ing in Aranguez ear­ly on Fri­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the man was walk­ing on the Aranguez Main Road, around 4.30 am when he was con­front­ed by a man who de­mand­ed his mon­ey.

The ban­dit pulled out a cut­lass and chopped the man on his right leg and snatched his cell­phone and cash be­fore run­ning away.

The wound­ed man flagged down a pass­ing am­bu­lance which took him to hos­pi­tal where he was treat­ed for a rup­tured ten­don. Of­fi­cers of the Barataria CID were called in and are watch­ing se­cu­ri­ty cam­era footage of the in­ci­dent as part of their en­quiries.
