A fiery crash in Point Fortin on Sunday has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man and left a woman in critical condition.
According to a report, around 10.30 am, a Toyota Corolla driven by 35-year-old Leah Marcelle was proceeding in a southerly direction along the South Central Road.
Police said that as the driver approached a T&TEC installation, the vehicle hit a depression in the roadway, causing her to lose control. The vehicle flipped and landed on its hood on a concrete culvert on the side of the road. Emilio Diaz O’Connor Espinoza, of Old St Joseph Road, Success Road, Lavenville, the front seat passenger, died in the crash. His body was badly burned.
The driver, also of Laventille, was assisted by passersby and transported to the Point Fortin Hospital before being transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where she underwent surgery.
