Man dies, woman injured in Point Fortin crash

A fiery crash in Point Fortin on Sun­day has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man and left a woman in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­port, around 10.30 am, a Toy­ota Corol­la dri­ven by 35-year-old Leah Mar­celle was pro­ceed­ing in a souther­ly di­rec­tion along the South Cen­tral Road.

Po­lice said that as the dri­ver ap­proached a T&TEC in­stal­la­tion, the ve­hi­cle hit a de­pres­sion in the road­way, caus­ing her to lose con­trol. The ve­hi­cle flipped and land­ed on its hood on a con­crete cul­vert on the side of the road. Emilio Di­az O’Con­nor Es­pinoza, of Old St Joseph Road, Suc­cess Road, Lavenville, the front seat pas­sen­ger, died in the crash. His body was bad­ly burned.

The dri­ver, al­so of Laven­tille, was as­sist­ed by passers­by and trans­port­ed to the Point Fortin Hos­pi­tal be­fore be­ing trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where she un­der­went surgery.
