A 25-year-old man was mur­dered near his Mal­oney Gar­dens home short­ly af­ter vis­it­ing the com­mu­ni­ty’s po­lice sta­tion on Fri­day evening.

Po­lice said around 6.50 pm, Ja­mal Shep­pard, of Gull Ter­race, Mal­oney Gar­dens, D’Abadie, was walk­ing home af­ter vis­it­ing the sta­tion to re­port as part of his bail con­di­tions.

Shep­pard re­port­ed­ly stopped to speak briefly to a fe­male friend he met on the road and told her that he be­lieved that he was be­ing fol­lowed by a ve­hi­cle af­ter leav­ing the sta­tion.

A short while lat­er, a white ve­hi­cle stopped near Shep­pard.

Two men armed with firearms got out and be­gan shoot­ing at him.

Shep­pard at­tempt­ed to run away and flee by scal­ing a res­i­dent’s wall, but the gun­men chased af­ter him and shot him sev­er­al times be­fore re­turn­ing to the await­ing ve­hi­cle.

Shep­pard suc­cumbed to his in­juries at the scene and was pro­nounced dead by a Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer (DMO).

Crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors re­port­ed­ly re­cov­ered a dozen spent 9 mm shells on the scene of the shoot­ing.
