A 25-year-old man was murdered near his Maloney Gardens home shortly after visiting the community’s police station on Friday evening.
Police said around 6.50 pm, Jamal Sheppard, of Gull Terrace, Maloney Gardens, D’Abadie, was walking home after visiting the station to report as part of his bail conditions.
Sheppard reportedly stopped to speak briefly to a female friend he met on the road and told her that he believed that he was being followed by a vehicle after leaving the station.
A short while later, a white vehicle stopped near Sheppard.
Two men armed with firearms got out and began shooting at him.
Sheppard attempted to run away and flee by scaling a resident’s wall, but the gunmen chased after him and shot him several times before returning to the awaiting vehicle.
Sheppard succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead by a District Medical Officer (DMO).
Crime scene investigators reportedly recovered a dozen spent 9 mm shells on the scene of the shooting.
