A shooting opposite the port in Scarborough on Tuesday night has left one man hospitalised.
According to reports, the victim was liming at the corner of Dutch Fort Road and Milford Road when a gunman approached and opened fire.
The man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital, where he remains warded in stable condition.
The incident marks the second shooting in the island’s capital in less than two months, following the murder of Sean Parisienne in a carpark on May 1.
Guardian Media visited the area where the shooting took place yesterday and spoke to a man liming near the corner.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the man linked the ATM robbery in Plymouth to the shooting, saying it was a sign of frustration among the people.
He said there is a level of fear among the public and noted there was very little foot traffic in the area than usual.
“The place hard, so more of that go happen. More killing go take place and it wouldn’t stop.
“Tobago was never like this. This place going and get more terrible. Is more bloodshed to share,” he said.
The man blamed the Government, claiming people were struggling because of outstanding backpay.
“Kamla, make haste and pay backpay...People waiting for money since 2013.
“People can’t take it anymore. Look they break the ATM. People under pressure.”
He said if more money is circulating then crime would decline.
Police say investigations are ongoing into the incident.
