The road fatality figure has increased after a San Juan man was knocked down on Monday as he crossed the Priority Bus Route (PBR) at the Croisée, San Juan.
The victim was identified as Zwadie James, 43, of Sou Sou Lands, Laventille Road, Febeau Village, San Juan.
Police said that a 61-year-old maxi taxi driver from Arima had been proceeding east in his red-band maxi taxi at around 2 pm, when, upon reaching the San Juan Promenade, the victim allegedly darted across the road from north to south and into the path of the vehicle.
The driver stopped immediately to render assistance and contacted the Emergency Health Services, who arrived on the scene and found the victim unresponsive.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene and ordered that James’s body be removed to the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
