A 24-year-old shopkeeper was gunned down near his home in Enterprise, just after midnight on Sunday.
According to a police report, the deceased has been identified as Jason “Rosey” Rosal.
Guardian Media understands that at about 12:45 am on Monday (February 15th), gunshots rang out at # 2 Mano Trace, Crown Trace in Enterprise, Chaguanas. Residents called the police on hearing the gunshots and officers who arrived on the scene minutes later found Rosal lying on the ground some five feet away from his home. He was already dead.
Police officers recovered from the scene 11 spent shells casings of 9mm calibre, two fragments and three projectiles.
Rosal’s relative reportedly told police that at about 11:15 pm on Sunday, Rosal was at home when he had an argument with his 19-year-old girlfriend, who is from Carlsen Field, Chaguanas. During the argument, Rosal is said to have accused her of being unfaithful. Rosal then threw her clothing outside and told her to leave. She was seen walking out of the house with a garbage bag.
A short while afterwards, while Rosal’s mother was inside her home, she reportedly overheard her son talking to a man, followed by the sound of gunshots.
Police are yet to determine a motive for the killing.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a 40-year-old shopkeeper was at his shop at #21 Councilman Circular, Malick, on Sunday, when at about 1 pm, a gunman opened fire on him while he was conducting sales.
The victim told police that he ran out of the shop and saw a man of African descent with a black rifle in his hand. The gunman reportedly was dressed in a black long-sleeved t-shirt, a pair of black three-quarter pants, a pull over mask and a black Marvin Gaye hat.
The victim added that the gunman pointed the firearm in his direction and opened fire again; however, he escaped injuries.
Police officers processed the scene and recovered eight 5.56 spent shells and one live round of 5.56 ammunition on the roadway at Councilman Circular. They also found five spent 9mm shells at the western side of the home of a neighbour. The neighbour’s home also bore bullet holes, having sustained damage during the shooting incident.
