A family from St John Road, Brother’s Road, Rio Claro returned from church on Friday morning to find 22-year-old Isaiah Binasarie dead.
Police believe Binasarie took his own life using his father’s licensed shotgun.
Police say around 6:45 am on Friday, Binasarie argued with a relative after being denied money to attend an event. The disagreement escalated when the relative also stopped him from leaving the house.
An hour later, around 7:45 am, other family members left home for church, leaving Binasarie alone. When they returned around 11:45 am, his sister went to check on him. Police said she found him unresponsive, seated in a chair in his bedroom with blood at his mouth and a shotgun nearby.
She raised an alarm and contacted police, who responded quickly. Officers found Binasarie in the same position, his head slumped forward, with a Remington 11-87 twelve-gauge shotgun—his father’s licensed firearm—leaning against the wall.
The District Medical Officer arrived on the scene and declared him dead. His body was taken to the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James, where an autopsy will be performed.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
