A 30-year-old man from Dundonald Hill, St James, was shot and injured by police officers on Monday afternoon, after allegedly attempting to stab them with a sharpened object.
According to reports, WPC Roberts and PC McIntosh of the E999/ERP unit, were on mobile patrol in a marked police vehicle along Dundonald Hill at 2.45 pm, when they noticed the suspect behaving suspiciously with an object in his waistband.
The officers stopped and attempted to search him, at which point he allegedly pulled out a sharpened object and lunged at them in an erratic and violent manner. The officers discharged their firearms, shooting the suspect twice in the legs.
He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
He is currently in custody at the St James Police Station pending further investigations, with charges expected to be laid.
Senior officers, including Acting ASP Brown, Acting Inspector De Gale, and officers from the Western Division, visited the scene. Crime Scene Investigators, including PC George and WPC Alleyne, processed the area.
An investigator is expected to be appointed to oversee the case.
