A Venezuelan man who poked his head outside his front door after hearing a commotion, was shot in the mouth and neck by the men who were chasing his 44-year-old friend to kill him on Tuesday night.
The injured man was waiting for his friend at his apartment at Eighth Avenue North, Barataria, around 9.48 pm on April 8, when several gunshots were heard.
The intended victim told police he was walking home and upon reaching the gate to his house, he saw the two men running towards him.
As one man pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him, the victim ran into his yard and went to the back of the house as the suspects pursued him.
As the victim climbed over the fence and jumped into a drain to escape the suspects, the victim’s friend opened the front door and stuck his head out, prompting them to shoot at him.
He was shot in the mouth and left side of the neck by the suspects who walked out of the yard.
The injured man was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Ward at the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex, Mt Hope, where he was treated and warded in a satisfactory condition.
Nine spent shells along with one magazine and seven live rounds of ammunition were recovered at the scene. —Anna-Lisa Paul
