A man accused of fatally wounding his ex-girlfriend in front of her child has been committed to stand trial in the High Court.
Kester D’Abreo was before Siparia Magistrate Aden Stroude charged with chopping Tehilla Gabriel-St Clair to death on September 3, 2018.
According to the prosecution’s case, just before midnight, Gabriel-St Clair was at her home at Wilson Trace, Alleyne Street, Beach Road, Palo Seco, with her six-year-old son when D’Abreo allegedly forced his way into her home. They began arguing and he allegedly dealt her multiple chops about her body.
D’Abreo, of Community Drive, Mt Hope, and Corollita Village, Malabar Phase One, Arima, was arrested by the police in some nearby bushes and subsequently charged.
Gabriel-St Clair was rushed to the Siparia Health Facility and then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital, where she later died.
During paper committal proceedings which began on January 6 before Stroude, 40 statements were tendered into evidence from 30 witnesses.
After reviewing the evidence, the magistrate ruled that the prosecution had made out a prima facie case and committed D’Abreo to stand trial at the next sitting of the San Fernando Assizes. D’Abreo was represented by attorney Wayne Rajbansie, while the prosecution was led by state counsel Selwyn Richardson.
