A man ac­cused of fa­tal­ly wound­ing his ex-girl­friend in front of her child has been com­mit­ted to stand tri­al in the High Court.

Kester D’Abreo was be­fore Siparia Mag­is­trate Aden Stroude charged with chop­ping Tehilla Gabriel-St Clair to death on Sep­tem­ber 3, 2018.

Ac­cord­ing to the pros­e­cu­tion’s case, just be­fore mid­night, Gabriel-St Clair was at her home at Wil­son Trace, Al­leyne Street, Beach Road, Pa­lo Seco, with her six-year-old son when D’Abreo al­leged­ly forced his way in­to her home. They be­gan ar­gu­ing and he al­leged­ly dealt her mul­ti­ple chops about her body.

D’Abreo, of Com­mu­ni­ty Dri­ve, Mt Hope, and Corol­li­ta Vil­lage, Mal­abar Phase One, Ari­ma, was ar­rest­ed by the po­lice in some near­by bush­es and sub­se­quent­ly charged.

Gabriel-St Clair was rushed to the Siparia Health Fa­cil­i­ty and then trans­ferred to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where she lat­er died.

Dur­ing pa­per com­mit­tal pro­ceed­ings which be­gan on Jan­u­ary 6 be­fore Stroude, 40 state­ments were ten­dered in­to ev­i­dence from 30 wit­ness­es.

Af­ter re­view­ing the ev­i­dence, the mag­is­trate ruled that the pros­e­cu­tion had made out a pri­ma fa­cie case and com­mit­ted D’Abreo to stand tri­al at the next sit­ting of the San Fer­nan­do As­sizes. D’Abreo was rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Wayne Ra­jban­sie, while the pros­e­cu­tion was led by state coun­sel Sel­wyn Richard­son.
