A man who stopped to urinate along the highway was abducted, beaten, robbed and then dumped on the side of the road in Siparia by men claiming to be police officers over the weekend.
The man remained tied up at the side of the road for over 12 hours.
Police said around 5.30 pm on Saturday, the 37-year-old Morne Diablo resident was on his way home from a friend’s house when he stopped his white Nissan B14 along the southbound lane of Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near Diamond Flyover to urinate. Shortly after a white van stopped and two occupants, wearing masks, approached him.
They claimed to be police officers and ordered him to return to his car.
He sat in the front passenger seat, and the two bandits entered his vehicle.
They began beating the man, bound his hands with tie straps and covered his mouth.
The bandits drove to Quinam Road, Siparia where they dropped the man off on the side of the road.
The victim remained on the road until real police officers arrived around 9:40 am on Sunday and freed him. He was taken to Siparia District Health Facility, where he was treated and transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for further medical treatment.
Later that day, Cpl Ramroop and PC Phillip of the Siparia Police Station discovered the victim’s car intact with the keys in the ignition, on a side road off Quinam Road, at Well #44 near Trincan.
