A 65-year-old man was killed after he ran into the path of a van on the Uriah Butler Highway on Saturday afternoon.
Police said Satyanand Harrinanan, of Harrinanan Drive, Arima, had been seen sweeping the middle lane of the highway near Chan Ramlal Road shortly before the incident, which happened around 1:45 p.m.
According to investigators, the driver of a northbound Isuzu DMax was in the right lane when Harrinanan suddenly ran across the roadway and into the vehicle’s path. He was struck.
Harrinanan, who police said suffered from dementia, was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where he died around 4:56 p.m.
