The decomposing body of a man was found in an apartment at Kelly Village, Caroni, on Wednesday.
Police identified the victim as Eric Joseph, 58 – a landlord of Tottenham Lane, La Solita Road.
The police were notified around 12.50 pm on April 10, of a foul smell coming from the dead man’s room in one of the apartments on the second floor.
Residents in the building last reported seeing Joseph, who was born in England, around 4.30 pm on April 5, whilst calls to his cell phone between then and yesterday morning went unanswered.
It was only yesterday when a few tenants in the building went to check on Joseph – whose door was bolted and locked from the inside – that they became aware of the stench emanating from his room and contacted the police.
Officers later found Joseph’s body which was in an advanced state of decomposition, lying on its’ back on the floor of the 15 by 15 room.
Joseph’s tenants claimed he lived alone.
Man arrested at mosque
A Diego Martin man was arrested during yesterday’s Eid celebrations at a mosque after he was held with a gun and a quantity of ammunition as he attended the religious proceedings.
The 28-year-old of Cuthbert Circular, Four Roads – was held during an anti-crime exercise which was carried out between 12 noon and 4 pm.
Acting on information, officers from the Western Division Task Force led by Snr Supt Garvin Henry, went to the mosque at Wilson Road, Diego Martin and observed a group of men standing on the south side of the building.
Upon seeing the police, it was reported that one man took off running towards a dirt track on the eastern side.
It is alleged that during the chase, the suspect reportedly threw what appeared to be a firearm, in some bushes.
Officers were able to apprehend the suspect and following an extensive search of the area, lawmen recovered a Glock 17 pistol equipped with an automatic firing selector and loaded with seventeen 17 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
Laventille resident critical after shooting
A Laventille man who was shot by armed gunmen as he drove along the Eastern Main Road, remained hospitalised in a critical condition yesterday.
Reports indicate the 32-year-old man of Spring Village, Trou Macaque, was driving his white Nissan B14, around 5.20 pm on Wednesday, when gunmen opened fire on him in the vicinity of Angostura.
Turning onto the Lady Young Road as he attempted to escape, the injured man lost control of the car which veered off the road.
Shot several times about the body, the victim was assisted by passersby who witnessed the incident as the gunmen sped off.
Meanwhile, the victim’s car was pushed onto the shoulder of the Lady Young Road by persons who came out to assist.
It was later towed by Soo Hong Wrecking Services to the Morvant Police Station.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
