A man who was released from prison back in December, and whom it was believed had recently issued threats to gang members at Maracas Bay over drug turf, was gunned down on Wednesday.
Police said Johanathan Lawrence Johnson, 32, of Santa Cruz Trail Road, Maracas Old Bay Road, was shot multiple times around 6 pm.
Residents alerted police after gunshots were heard in the area, following which responding officers found Johnson’s body behind his mother’s house.
Johnson, who worked as a loader, was found lying on his stomach.
A total of 16 spent 5.56mm shell casings, of which four bore the markings TTAG (T&T Air Guard), and 14 spent 9mm shell casings were found at the scene.
Police said Johnson left home around 5.45 pm to go to a nearby shop to purchase cigarettes and something to eat, following which gunshots were heard. Eyewitnesses told police four masked men were seen chasing Johnson while shooting at him.
The suspects later fled in a waiting Tiida.
