A 41-year-old mar­ket ven­dor was fa­tal­ly shot in front of his Rio Claro home on Wednes­day night. Po­lice be­lieve Mitchum Hamid, of Granger Hill, Guayagua­yare Road, knew his killers.

Po­lice said Hamid was in his gallery with friends around 9 pm when a black Toy­ota Corol­la stopped in front of his house. Hamid walked up to the ve­hi­cle and be­gan speak­ing with a man who came out of the rear pas­sen­ger seat. Short­ly af­ter, Hamid be­gan walk­ing back to his house when some­one called out to him from in­side the car. As he walked to­wards the dri­ver’s side, sev­er­al gun­shots were heard. Hamid then fell to the ground.

The oc­cu­pant with whom Hamid was speak­ing then walked up to him and shot him sev­er­al times.

The man re­turned to the ve­hi­cle which sped off.

Hamid’s friends rushed to his as­sis­tance and took him to the health fa­cil­i­ty, but by the time they ar­rived there with him, Hamid had suc­cumbed to his in­juries. He was pro­nounced dead by health of­fi­cials.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors re­trieved nine 9mm cas­ings and eight .45mm cas­ings at the scene.

Po­lice have not yet re­vealed a mo­tive for Hamid’s mur­der.
