A 41-year-old market vendor was fatally shot in front of his Rio Claro home on Wednesday night. Police believe Mitchum Hamid, of Granger Hill, Guayaguayare Road, knew his killers.
Police said Hamid was in his gallery with friends around 9 pm when a black Toyota Corolla stopped in front of his house. Hamid walked up to the vehicle and began speaking with a man who came out of the rear passenger seat. Shortly after, Hamid began walking back to his house when someone called out to him from inside the car. As he walked towards the driver’s side, several gunshots were heard. Hamid then fell to the ground.
The occupant with whom Hamid was speaking then walked up to him and shot him several times.
The man returned to the vehicle which sped off.
Hamid’s friends rushed to his assistance and took him to the health facility, but by the time they arrived there with him, Hamid had succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead by health officials.
Investigators retrieved nine 9mm casings and eight .45mm casings at the scene.
Police have not yet revealed a motive for Hamid’s murder.
PC Rambhajan is investigating.
