Mason Hall Secondary school reopened yesterday for in-person classes after it closed because a student tested positive for COVID-19.

The student was the first to get the disease since in-person school resumed nationally on February 8.

An official at the Health, Wellness, and Family Development Division said contact tracing is complete, and all persons who came into contact with the infected student at school, tested negative.

This was also confirmed by another official from the Education, Energy, and Innovation Division who told Guardian Media there was no spread of the virus, and all students considered close contacts obtained negative results after testing.

On March 1, the Tobago House of Assembly’s Education Division confirmed the student tested positive for the virus.

The division said the school was closed for sanitisation and to determine whether COVID-protocols were being followed.

The student was one of four people who tested positive for COVID-19 after there were no reported positive cases on the island for 30 consecutive days.

According to the health division, as of March 9, there are four active COVID cases in Tobago.
