TRIBE Carnival and Machel Montano’s Melé Destinations, a 5-day, 4-night all-inclusive getaway to Cancun, Mexico, is back in 2023.
After a successful inaugural edition in April 2022, organisers say more than 50 per cent of the rooms at the luxurious Moon Palace Resort have already been booked by avid Carnival lovers looking forward to the Melé sequel carded for September 7th to 11th, 2023.
A first-of its kind destination weekend getaway, Melé Destinations featured fetes, day & night, Carib Beer, Angostura White Oak Rum, Doubles, bottomless premium drinks, unlimited food, a cast of the Caribbean’s finest artistes and DJ’s, plus an all-day Carnival parade by TRIBE Carnival. According to those in attendance, the very first Melé was “nothing short of EPIC”.
The well-known mas giant and soca legend duo who collaborated to create the signature experience cannot wait to return and take over Mexico for round 2.
Melé Cancun 2022 featured designs by popular TRIBE designers Solange Govia & Shawn Dhanraj and marked TRIBE’s first time producing costumes and its renowned masquerader road experience since T&T Carnival 2020. It also marked the very first performance by Machel Montano and band since the 2020 Carnival season.
The proclaimed King of Soca kicked off his celebration of 40 years in the Soca industry at the start-studded event back in April. On the first night, Montano serenaded adoring fans, singing hits from the first 20 years of his career in Soca.
Over the course of Melé, artistes including Destra Garcia, Beenie Man, Patrice Roberts, Voice, Lyrikal, Kerwin DuBois, Problem Child, Skinny Fabulous, Farmer Nappy and Viking Ding Dong graced the stage, many performing their collab hits with the Soca legend. On the final night, at the grand finale concert, Montano performed his latest (20 years of) hits, closing with a glorious fireworks display.
CEO of the TRIBE Group of Companies, Dean Ackin expressed his gratitude to all Melé guests who believed in both brands and their ability to deliver an event concept that was new to both Machel and TRIBE; one which takes Trinidad and Tobago’s music, culture and costume parade overseas for the first time.
“TRIBE’s mission has always been to showcase T&T Culture to as many people as we can reach – those who already love Carnival, and those who are yet to participate in it” he stated.
Ackin believes that through Melé, TRIBE can attract new visitors to T&T from across the globe who, after experiencing the taste of T&T that Melé provides, will “return to our shores to experience the real thing – the glory of the Greatest Show on Earth.”
The next edition of Melé was intended to be a Cruise in April 2024, but the team, who considers feedback from participants and hopefuls alike as their main decision-making tool, took the decision to step away from sailing as many still do not feel safe cruising in large numbers. As such, Melé will head back to its on-land Cancun oasis in 2023, bigger and better than in 2022.
