A 75-year-old pensioner was found dead in his kitchen on Thursday night, and police have since arrested his mentally ill son in connection with the incident.
The body of Peter Banfield was discovered around 8 pm at his home at LP #14 Mamoral Road, Flanagin Town, by a relative who had been alerted by Banfield’s sister.
The woman told police she received a call from her mother, who said Banfield’s son, Christopher, had shown up at her house behaving suspiciously.
Concerned after repeated attempts to contact Banfield failed, the woman went to his home. She told police she called out to him several times before opening the door and discovering his body lying motionless in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor.
Brasso police were contacted and responded immediately. Officers found Banfield on his back with visible wounds to his head and face.
The scene was secured and crime scene investigators processed the area, collecting evidence and bagging the deceased’s hands.
Investigators were told that around 7.30 pm, Banfield went to his aunt’s house and said he and his father had an altercation and that he left him in the kitchen. Police later arrested him and took him to the Chaguanas Health Facility for medical attention.
He was treated, discharged, and remains in police custody.
