A fire shortly after midday yesterday caused millions of dollars in damage at the upper level of Mitsuda Superstore on Old Road, Longdenville.
Workers at the store told Guardian Media that there were no reported injuries or casualties, as employees and customers were able to exit the building safely.
Firefighters from Chaguanas and Couva responded to the blaze, which reportedly affected stock and sections of the building’s upper floor.
The fire sparked panic in the area after a loud explosion was reportedly heard miles away.
Chief Fire Officer Andy Hutchinson and Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Central, Noel Stewart, were on the scene and are leading investigations to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
