Minister Young meets with BP Executives

Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries the Ho­n­ourable Stu­art R. Young, met with BP Ex­ec­u­tives to dis­cuss the fu­ture of the com­pa­ny and the man­age­ment of en­er­gy in Trinidad and To­ba­go. De­tails fol­low in this press re­lease from the Min­is­ter.

 

Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries and Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter, the Ho­n­ourable Stu­art R. Young, M.P., met  to­day vir­tu­al­ly with BP Ex­ec­u­tives, Mr. Dev Sanyal, EVP, gas and low car­bon en­er­gy and Mrs. Claire Fitz­patrick, Se­nior Vice Pres­i­dent.

Dis­cus­sions in­volved BP's cur­rent pro­duc­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go, the progress of its cur­rent projects, in­clud­ing, Mat­a­pal and Cas­sia C, fu­ture gas pro­duc­tion and con­tin­ued in­vest­ments in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

The par­ties al­so dis­cussed the re­struc­tur­ing of At­lantic LNG and the im­por­tance of the on­go­ing ne­go­ti­a­tions per­tain­ing to At­lantic.

BP reaf­firmed its com­mit­ment to the so­lar project that it is pur­su­ing as a joint ven­ture with Shell, as well as its com­mit­ment to gas pro­duc­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

Mr. Dev Sanyal em­pha­sised that even as BP nav­i­gates the en­er­gy  tran­si­tion, "gas is an es­sen­tial and in­te­gral part of the tran­si­tion and will be the sta­bil­is­ing in­flu­ence for decades to come".

Min­is­ter Young em­pha­sised the Gov­ern­ment's com­mit­ment to en­sure that Trinidad and To­ba­go re­mains com­pet­i­tive in the glob­al en­er­gy en­vi­ron­ment whilst seek­ing to de­rive the best re­turns for the cit­i­zens of Trinidad and To­ba­go.

The meet­ing was  pro­duc­tive and par­ties agreed to con­tin­ue work­ing to en­sure fu­ture gas pro­duc­tion.

The ef­fects of the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic on the en­er­gy sec­tor glob­al­ly was al­so dis­cussed and BP recog­nised the Gov­ern­ment's fa­cil­i­ta­tion of the en­er­gy sec­tor through­out the pan­dem­ic.

Min­is­ter Young and the Min­istry of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries con­tin­ue to work to­wards main­tain­ing Trinidad and To­ba­go's glob­al com­pet­i­tive­ness.
