The Min­istry of Hous­ing on Fri­day host­ed a Home Im­prove­ment Grant (HIG) cheque dis­tri­b­u­tion cer­e­mo­ny where cheques were dis­trib­uted to 38 pro­gramme ben­e­fi­cia­ries.

Present at the event were David Lee, Min­is­ter of Hous­ing and Anil Roberts and Phillip Alexan­der, Min­is­ters in the Min­istry.

In his Fea­ture Ad­dress, Min­is­ter Lee said hous­ing plays a key role in strength­en­ing the na­tion. He not­ed that the Home Im­prove­ment Grant is a cen­tral part of the Min­istry’s hous­ing pro­grammes.

The Home Im­prove­ment Grant pro­vides fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance of up to $15,000 to el­i­gi­ble ap­pli­cants for es­sen­tial re­pair and im­prove­ment works. These works in­clude roof and ceil­ing up­grades, elec­tri­cal in­stal­la­tions, plumb­ing re­pairs, and the pro­vi­sion of in­door toi­let and bath fa­cil­i­ties.

Roberts as­sist­ed in dis­trib­ut­ing the cheques and en­cour­aged ben­e­fi­cia­ries to use the fund­ing for mean­ing­ful home im­prove­ments.

Alexan­der said the pro­gramme con­tin­ues to im­pact lives pos­i­tive­ly and reaf­firmed the Min­istry’s com­mit­ment to de­liv­er­ing the Gov­ern­ment’s hous­ing man­date. He added that the Min­istry’s hous­ing ini­tia­tives are root­ed in ser­vice and eq­ui­ty for cit­i­zens.

The Min­istry stat­ed that the cer­e­mo­ny demon­strat­ed its on­go­ing com­mit­ment to pro­vid­ing prac­ti­cal hous­ing so­lu­tions and that through the HIG pro­gramme, it seeks to en­sure every cit­i­zen has ac­cess to safe and af­ford­able hous­ing.
