An investigation is underway after intruders broke into the Malick Secondary School compound during the early hours of Sunday.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that a group of unidentified individuals unlawfully entered the premises and reportedly ambushed two on-duty security officers. The matter has been referred to both supervisory personnel and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
Minister of Education Dr Michael Dowlath said the ministry was working with the TTPS, MTS Security Services and other agencies to support the investigation. In the meantime, steps are being taken to strengthen the school’s security infrastructure, including improved perimeter fencing, enhanced lighting, and a review of patrol protocols.
These upgrades will also help shape the national Vacation Repair Programme, which the ministry said aims to reduce security risks across schools.
“The ministry continues to work collaboratively with all security service providers and encourages the ongoing exercise of vigilance in safeguarding school compounds,” Dowlath said. “The safety and security of all students, staff, and property remain a top priority.”
Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
