The mother of missing two-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza and her boyfriend remain in police custody in Tobago.
Police confirmed they are being held at separate locations as they continue to question them on the child’s disappearance.
Kalifah Tobias, 22, and her boyfriend Shannon Miller, 25, were taken from their Goodwood home by investigators on Friday afternoon.
Angelo was reported missing from his seaside home on Cambridge Trace around 7.30 pm on Monday night.
Extensive searches on land and sea by various state agencies, a private marine company and volunteers have come up empty-handed.
The focus of the search has been shifted to land, as experts say Angelo’s body would have begun to float by day three if he had drowned.
Goldsborough resident Denicia Miller, sister of Shannon Miller, was in Goodwood yesterday looking on as two Hunters Search and Rescue teams scoured the ground for the toddler.
She told Guardian Media she last saw Angelo walking with his mother in Scarborough on Sunday.
She said Angelo ran up to her and hugged her tightly — a memory she said she won’t forget.
“It’s five days now and I feel really, really sad. It is not a nice thing. It is not a good thing. All your family and friends are saddened,” she said.
Asked what the relationship was like between her brother and Tobias, Miller said she was not sure.
Meanwhile, Hunters Search and Rescue, led by Shamsudeen Ayube, said they narrowed the search to certain areas based on information received.
Their operations started around 9.30 am as they searched along the coastline, the swampy areas and the bushes.
Team member Clint Thomas said, “The Hunters Search and Rescue always likes to bring closure to any case, even to find loved ones.”
He added, “This rocked Trinidad and Tobago, so this is part of (what we do), so we are going all out to bring closure to this case.
Thomas said the team is working in coordination with the police and plans to search nonstop until Angelo is found.
“We will search until closure of this case.”
Candlelight vigil for Angelo today
Meanwhile, villagers said that a candlelight vigil will be held today at 7pm to advocate for justice for Angelo. It will be held outside Sharon’s Supermarket at the corner of Cambridge Trace.
Goodwood Village Council president Wendy Des Vignes yesterday demanded charges be brought against whoever was responsible for Angelo’s disappearance.
