The third tranche of AstraZeneca vaccines through COVAX is expected to arrive in this country on Wednesday.
According to a schedule on the Pan American Health Organisation’s website yesterday, these doses are expected to arrive on Wednesday at 2.30 am. Guardian Media was unable to confirm if this date of receipt is guaranteed from Minister of HealthTerrence Deyalsingh since he did not respond to our messages.
Some 33,600 doses are expected to arrive.
Thus far this country has received two shipments of vaccines through the COVAX facility.
The first arrived on March 31.
Meanwhile, yesterday there appeared to be quite an interest from citizens to receive a jab from the 82,030 Oxford-AstraZeneca doses received from Canada.
Just three hours after the website opened up there were some 12,660 visitors to the site.
However, officials said, as of 3 pm yesterday 4,662 people booked appointments to get vaccinated.
The number of people demanding a dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca is expected to grow larger in the coming days, however, only some 41,015 people will be able to receive a dose with the rest being retained for their second dose.
