Wilfred Nicholas Morris was sworn in yesterday as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister during a ceremony at President’s House presided over by Acting President Wade Mark. He joins Ministers Barry Padarath and Darrell Allahar in the office.
Morris was elected to the House of Representatives as the Member of Parliament for Mayaro in April 2025 and also serves as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs. He previously held the position of Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister.
After taking the oath and receiving his instrument of appointment, Morris thanked the Prime Minister and his constituents.
“I would like to thank the Honorable Prime Minister for the opportunity to continue serving our country and our government, and I’d like to thank my constituents, the people of Mayaro, who have given me the opportunity to represent them in Parliament,” he said.
Morris highlighted the Government’s commitment to economic reform and the restoration of safety and security.
“The Prime Minister has transformed the Office of the Prime Minister from a mere administrative office into a delivery ministry. She has been using it to reach out, connect with citizens, advance our legislative agenda, and build the country. I am very grateful to serve in the Office of the Prime Minister,” he added.
On his priorities, Morris said, “My greatest priority is to support the Prime Minister in executing her work as head of government and to serve wherever needed, particularly in support of my constituents.”
He described the administration’s approach as “all-hands-on-deck” and reaffirmed his commitment to a people-centred style of governance.
Addressing online rumours, Morris confirmed that Minister Padarath remains in his position.
“Of course. This appointment has nothing to do with anything circulating online. Minister Padarath remains the senior minister in the Office of the Prime Minister and the leader of government business, while Minister Allahar also serves in the office and is the leader of government in the Senate,” he said.
