A 42-year-old Mor­vant man was shot when he tried to block home in­vaders on Sun­day night.

Po­lice said the man was at his Al­mond Dri­ve,home with a rel­a­tive around 9.35 pm when they heard the voice of a man de­mand­ing they open the door. When the man re­fused, he heard the stranger try­ing to break in­to the house.

The man pushed his fridge in front of the door to block the in­trud­er but was shot once in his back through the door.

Po­lice from the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force were called in and took the bleed­ing man to hos­pi­tal where he re­mained ward­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion up to yes­ter­day.

Crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors vis­it­ed the scene and re­trieved a sin­gle spent 9 mm shell.
