A 28-year-old motorcyclist became this country's latest road fatality after crashing his bike while trying to avoid a pothole in Curepe on Wednesday night.
Police said Richard Nangwah was riding his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle on the northbound lane of the Southern Main Road, Curepe, at 10.15 pm when he swerved to avoid a pothole and crashed into a silver Kia Cerato.
The impact threw Nangwah from the motorcycle onto a pavement, while the car crashed into a nearby light pole and caught fire. The 26-year-old driver escaped.
Officers of the North Central Division and firefighters from the San Juan Fire Station went to the scene and extinguished the blaze.
A district medical officer also arrived and declared Nangwah dead at the scene.
Police towed both the motorcycle and the Cerato to the St Joseph Police Station.
