Two bandits attempted to abduct a motorist after robbing him on Thursday in San Fernando, but the 34-year-old Freeport man fought back and escaped.
The victim told police that around 2.15 pm, he was driving his brown Mazda BT50 van south along Seukeran Street. As he negotiated a U-turn at the end of the street, he was approached by two men. One of the suspects pointed a gun at his head and ordered him into the backseat.
One of the assailants also entered the backseat and struck the victim on the head before stealing his blue iPhone 13, valued at $5,500, and his wallet, which contained personal documents and $3,300.
The other suspect attempted to drive off with the victim still in the vehicle.
However, the victim struggled with the suspect in the backseat and managed to escape.
The bandits then fled in the victim’s van, valued at $70,000, which contained $10,000 worth of tools. The victim sought treatment at the San Fernando General Hospital.
The vehicle was later recovered by Acting Corporal Huggins and officers of the San Fernando Enquiries Unit along Penitence Street near Surgi Med.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
