The public is being asked to reach out and assist health care workers battling the COVID-19 virus. The call comes from Member of Parliament for Cumuto/Manzanilla, Dr Rai Ragbir MP.
Speaking with Guardian Media at his Chaguanas offices on Friday December 31st, Dr Ragbir said the health sector is under tremendous strain because of the COVID-19 virus.
"Let me pay tribute to all the health care workers and first responders of this blessed country. Many have actually contracted COVID-19 and have succumbed to such,” Dr Ragbir said. “We must always remind ourselves that they themselves had had personal sacrifices in terms of their time, their money, their energy and family sacrifice. Don't take them for granted.”
He added: “They have gotten no financial increments. They continue to do work even when more of our health care workers are getting sick and they don't have the resources as they would like to have. In 2022, do something nice for a healthcare worker—cook a meal, cut their grass, buy some groceries and vegetables. Talk to them and say, ‘what I can do for you?’”
The Cumuto/Manzanilla MP said the country is now number one in the world when it comes to deaths per one million people because of COVID-19.
"The healthcare system is being drained to the abyss of financial disruption because you can't keep buying medication and helping people, Ragbir said. “We have to fix it at some time."
Dr Ragbir said vaccine hesitancy is based on persons believing in conspiracy theories.
"Your chance for survival is much greater when you take the vaccine," he advised.
