Naparima Girls’ High cops 19 national schols

Na­pari­ma Girls’ High School has se­cured the most Gov­ern­ment schol­ar­ships this year.

The south-based school took 19 of 100 schol­ar­ships of­fered by the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion based on the re­sults of the Caribbean Ad­vanced Pro­fi­cien­cy Ex­am­i­na­tions (CAPE) 2022, a re­lease con­firmed yes­ter­day.

Of the 19 schol­ar­ships, nine were in the Open cat­e­go­ry and were award­ed to Re­nes­sa Ram­s­ingh (Busi­ness Stud­ies), Is­abel­la Mun­gal (Cre­ative & Per­for­mance Stud­ies), Christin Seecha­ran (Gen­er­al Stud­ies), Farah Ali (In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Tech­nol­o­gy Stud­ies), An­geli­na Stew (Lan­guage Stud­ies), Kay­la Dook­ie (Math­e­mat­ics), Soriyah Rooplal (Math­e­mat­ics), Taahi­rah Khan (Nat­ur­al Sci­ence) and Son­ja Maraj (Nat­ur­al Sci­ence).

Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege (Ch­agua­nas) earned the sec­ond most schol­ar­ships with 11.

Four of those were Open schol­ar­ships award­ed to Kevin Liu (Busi­ness Stud­ies), Dar­i­an Ramjits­ingh (En­vi­ron­men­tal Stud­ies), An­drew Mo­hammed (Nat­ur­al Sci­ence) and Ak­shay Ram­lo­gan (Nat­ur­al Sci­ence).

St Au­gus­tine Girls’ High School mean­while se­cure nine schol­ar­ships.

They earned five Open schols via Jian­na Thomas (Busi­ness Stud­ies), Poo­ja Man­gra (In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Tech­nol­o­gy Stud­ies), Solange Joseph (Lan­guage Stud­ies), Robyn Bho­la (Math­e­mat­ics) and Saira Mo­hammed (Nat­ur­al Sci­ence).

The Gov­ern­ment award­ed 100 schol­ar­ships—32 Open and 68 Ad­di­tion­al. Of the 100 schol­ar­ships, 72 per cent were award­ed to fe­male stu­dents while 28 per cent were award­ed to male stu­dents.

The schol­ar­ships in the ten cog­nate groups are award­ed sole­ly based on aca­d­e­m­ic per­for­mance.
