Police arrested nine people yesterday—including five Venezuelan nationals in the country illegally—and seized a pistol along with quantities of ammunition.
Officers conducted an exercise between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday at an abandoned structure at East Dry River, Port-of-Spain. There, they discovered a Beretta pistol wrapped in a pair of camouflage trousers, with a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition.
They also found a crate containing 50 rounds of assorted ammunition and one magazine during the search.
In a separate exercise on Wednesday, officers discovered quantities of ammunition, cannabis, and cocaine at the Duncan and Nelson Street Plannings.
They also recovered several mobile phones believed to be linked to multiple reports of larceny in the Port-of-Spain district.
In the South Western Division, officers carried out an exercise between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Thursday. They searched a house at Icacos Village, Cedros, and detained five Venezuelan nationals—ages 21 to 48—who are in the country illegally.
In the Southern Division, officers conducted another exercise between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thursday, which led to the arrest of four suspects. The men, aged 20 to 32, all of San Fernando, were held in connection with reports of burglary and robbery with violence.
Investigations into all matters are ongoing.
