The National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) has congratulated the United National Congress (UNC) and the Coalition of Interests on what it described as “a well-deserved victory in the 2025 General Elections,” while urging the new administration to pursue a more equitable model of national development.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, NJAC also extended congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Kamla Persad-Bissessar—who now becomes Trinidad and Tobago’s second female Prime Minister—as well as Chief Secretary Farley Augustine and the Tobago People’s Party (TPP) for their success in Tobago.

NJAC, which was a member of the People's Partnership coalition that brought Persad-Bissessar to power in 2010, used the moment to call for a shift in governance priorities.

“There is now an opportunity to reset our mode of development from one that was centred around the rich and wealthy gaining increased economic dominance under the former PNM Government to one that could be more people-centred and therefore allowing for a more equitable distribution of resources,” the party said.

The party also interpreted the election results as a sign of deepening political maturity in the electorate. “The results of the 2025 General Elections signal the continued maturation of the population and a gradual shift in political demographics, with a reduction in voting along racial lines,” NJAC said.

Despite finding out just three days earlier—on December 23—that I had breast cancer, I still got dressed and showed up on December 26, Boxing Day, for a birthday party. I didn’t go to escape the truth. I went to remind myself I was still here, still living, still me.
