No appointments will be necessary for children to receive their dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine from Wednesday, according to Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh.

He said 13 sites around the country have been identified, and will be up and running from Wednesday—with the exception of the Divali Nagar site, which will begin on Sunday.

The health minister also is reminding the public that only children between 12 and 18 will be allowed to receive these doses.  He urged parents to get their children vaccinated.

Minister Deyalsingh warned that if the Delta variant of concern currently is circulating in the population, children will bear the brunt of it.

Currently, the three children who are battling COVID-19 are warded in the Intensive Care Unit.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram reported today that the results of their genetic sequence tests are not yet in.  The tests are seeking to determine if the children are infected with the Delta variant.
