Two men charged in connection with the seizure of cocaine valued at over $254 million, appeared before a Port-of-Spain High Court Master on Friday.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised that Captain James Rodrigues and Abdul Azad be charged for the offence of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Both men were denied bail and the matter has been adjourned to April 30, 2025.
On March 12, 157 packets of cocaine, weighing a combined total of 182.24 kilograms, with an estimated street value of $254,027,980.80 were seized by officers.
Five crew members aboard a shipping vessel were arrested in connection with the trafficking attempt.
Investigations are continuing.
