No bail for two charged with trafficking $254m of cocaine

Two men charged in con­nec­tion with the seizure of co­caine val­ued at over $254 mil­lion, ap­peared be­fore a Port-of-Spain High Court Mas­ter on Fri­day.

The Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions (DPP) ad­vised that Cap­tain James Ro­drigues and Ab­dul Azad be charged for the of­fence of pos­ses­sion of co­caine for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.

Both men were de­nied bail and the mat­ter has been ad­journed to April 30, 2025.

On March 12, 157 pack­ets of co­caine, weigh­ing a com­bined to­tal of 182.24 kilo­grams, with an es­ti­mat­ed street val­ue of $254,027,980.80 were seized by of­fi­cers.

Five crew mem­bers aboard a ship­ping ves­sel were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the traf­fick­ing at­tempt.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
