A Venezuelan woman accused of running a human trafficking ring in Tunapuna has been denied bail and is expected to return to court in November.
According to a release from the Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU), 22-year-old Gabrielis Maibelline Periera Martinez was formally charged following the execution of Operation G-Ride on June 6, 2025.
The operation led to the rescue of several Latin American nationals and the dismantling of what the CTU described as a major human trafficking network.
Martinez was charged with:
• Receiving and harbouring a Latin American female for the purpose of exploiting her through prostitution
• Unlawfully and knowingly confiscating identification documents for the purpose of trafficking
• Cruelty to children
The matter was heard before Master Rehanna Hosein, who ordered that no bail be granted.
It has been adjourned to November 15, 2025.
The CTU said it continues to work alongside partner agencies to provide support and protection to victims, while ensuring offenders are prosecuted under the Trafficking in Persons Act, Chap 12:10.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected cases of human trafficking by calling the CTU Hotline at 800-4CTU (4288).
The CTU assures that all reports are handled with strict confidentiality.
