Nearly a month after 41-year-old Iyana Castanada collapsed and died after drinking a cup of tea, a forensic autopsy is yet to be conducted.
Her body remains at the Scarborough General Hospital mortuary.
Guardian Media understands the matter was classified as a forensic case, as foul play is suspected by doctors who raised suspicions during the clinical autopsy.
However, up to yesterday, police said they were still awaiting the arrival of a pathologist from Trinidad to perform the autopsy and confirm the cause of death.
Castanada died on the night of April 11 at Top Hill, Mason Hall.
Police said a 36-year-old male friend told officers that she began complaining of belly pains shortly after drinking a cup of moringa tea around 11.30 pm. She collapsed and died soon after.
Police also heard from a woman close to Castanada, who claimed the 41-year-old spent the day cooking and, without cooling down, went to bathe in an outdoor pool.
The woman claimed Castanada began shivering, feeling unwell and was given tea to help.
Doctors at the hospital later referred the case to the police due to concerns raised during their assessment.
