Can­di­dates from po­lit­i­cal par­ties hop­ing to con­test the Debe South bye-elec­tion on Feb­ru­ary 7th, filed their Nom­i­na­tion Pa­pers at the Of­fice of the Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cer for the elec­toral dis­trict to­day.

Fil­ing their pa­pers to­day at the of­fice lo­cat­ed in the Shops of Debe were Judy Sookdeo, can­di­date for the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment (PNM); Khem­raj Seecha­ran, the can­di­date for the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC); and Loren­zo Sam­my, can­di­date for the Pro­gres­sive Em­pow­er­ment Par­ty (PEP).

Khem­raj Seecha­ran was ac­com­pa­nied by Dr Roodal Mooni­lal MP, the Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Oropouche East.

And Loren­zo Sam­my cre­at­ed a spec­ta­cle with flags and tas­sa drum­ming, as he made his way to file his nom­i­na­tion pa­pers at the Of­fice of the Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cer for Debe, at the Shops of Debe, ear­li­er to­day.

The UNC be­lieves it is a fore­gone con­clu­sion that their par­ty will win the seat.

How­ev­er, the PNM is con­fi­dent of mak­ing an up­set and in­fil­trat­ing the Pe­nal Debe Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion (PDRC) which is con­trolled by the UNC.

The death of Coun­cil­lor Pu­rushot­tam Singh on 14th Feb­ru­ary 2021, paved the way for this bye-elec­tion to take place.
