Candidates from political parties hoping to contest the Debe South bye-election on February 7th, filed their Nomination Papers at the Office of the Returning Officer for the electoral district today.
Filing their papers today at the office located in the Shops of Debe were Judy Sookdeo, candidate for the People’s National Movement (PNM); Khemraj Seecharan, the candidate for the United National Congress (UNC); and Lorenzo Sammy, candidate for the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP).
Khemraj Seecharan was accompanied by Dr Roodal Moonilal MP, the Member of Parliament for Oropouche East.
And Lorenzo Sammy created a spectacle with flags and tassa drumming, as he made his way to file his nomination papers at the Office of the Returning Officer for Debe, at the Shops of Debe, earlier today.
The UNC believes it is a foregone conclusion that their party will win the seat.
However, the PNM is confident of making an upset and infiltrating the Penal Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) which is controlled by the UNC.
The death of Councillor Purushottam Singh on 14th February 2021, paved the way for this bye-election to take place.
