The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising the public that several surface water treatment facilities in the Northeast Region are currently out of operation due to heavy overnight rainfall.
The authority also added that "All resources focused on returning facilities to full service. "
According to the release, the facilities were affected by riverine flooding, high turbidity, clogged intake screens, and siltation, which led to the disruption of normal operations at several facilities.
The facilities affected are as follows:
1) Matura- Matura, Salybia, Pierre Street, Gray Trace, Orosco Bay Road, Mendoza Street
2) Aripo- Cocorite Road – Arima (between Henry Street and Malabar Branch Road), Malabar Road, Malabar Phase 2, Wallerfield, Santa Rosa, Pinto Road, Train Line and Smith Lands
3) Tompire- Toco, Balandra
4) Guanapo- Pinto Road, Mt. Pleasant, Alenore Gardens, Calvary, Sanchez Street, Bye Pass Road, Maturita, La Retreat Road, Blanchisseuse Road
5) Quare- Orchid Ext., Valencia Old Road, Quare Rd/Cumaca Rd, Plantation Rd/San Pablo, San Pedro/Flamboyant Crescent and environs
6) North Oropouche Reduced production – Maloney, Carapo, Malabar, Five Rivers, Tumpuna, Sangre Grande, Manzanilla and environs
WASA says they are actively working to restore operations and will provide further updates as the situation progresses.
