The Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA) is ad­vis­ing the pub­lic that sev­er­al sur­face wa­ter treat­ment fa­cil­i­ties in the North­east Re­gion are cur­rent­ly out of op­er­a­tion due to heavy overnight rain­fall.

The au­thor­i­ty al­so added that "All re­sources fo­cused on re­turn­ing fa­cil­i­ties to full ser­vice. "

Ac­cord­ing to the re­lease, the fa­cil­i­ties were af­fect­ed by river­ine flood­ing, high tur­bid­i­ty, clogged in­take screens, and sil­ta­tion, which led to the dis­rup­tion of nor­mal op­er­a­tions at sev­er­al fa­cil­i­ties.

The fa­cil­i­ties af­fect­ed are as fol­lows:

1) Matu­ra- Matu­ra, Saly­bia, Pierre Street, Gray Trace, Orosco Bay Road, Men­doza Street

2) Aripo- Co­corite Road – Ari­ma (be­tween Hen­ry Street and Mal­abar Branch Road), Mal­abar Road, Mal­abar Phase 2, Waller­field, San­ta Rosa, Pin­to Road, Train Line and Smith Lands

3) Tom­pire- To­co, Ba­lan­dra

4) Gua­napo- Pin­to Road, Mt. Pleas­ant, Alenore Gar­dens, Cal­vary, Sanchez Street, Bye Pass Road, Ma­tu­ri­ta, La Re­treat Road, Blan­chisseuse Road

5) Quare- Or­chid Ext., Va­len­cia Old Road, Quare Rd/Cumaca Rd, Plan­ta­tion Rd/San Pablo, San Pe­dro/Flam­boy­ant Cres­cent and en­vi­rons

6) North Oropouche Re­duced pro­duc­tion – Mal­oney, Cara­po, Mal­abar, Five Rivers, Tumpuna, San­gre Grande, Man­zanil­la and en­vi­rons

WASA says they are ac­tive­ly work­ing to re­store op­er­a­tions and will pro­vide fur­ther up­dates as the sit­u­a­tion pro­gress­es.
