The political leader of the National Transformation Alliance (NTA) is defending the impartiality of the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) amid claims of “political bias” by the United National Congress (UNC).
During a political meeting in St Joseph last evening, Gary Griffith voiced his support for the institution and underscored the importance of adhering to its established procedures.
The NTA leader further condemned political parties for what he says are attempts to bring the EBC into disrepute.
“The country needs to calm down and appreciate the fact that the EBC [is unbiased]—and there has been nothing that we have seen to show anything [like that]”, he told Guardian Media.
“What we have seen is that the EBC has been very professional. They have done their work,” he said.
Meanwhile, Griffith explained that the NTA's calculated approach to the General Election should not be interpreted as a “sabotage attempt”.
“We are not vote splitters,” he asserted. “We have a representation of those individuals who are not PNM or UNC ‘till they die’.”
“Persons believe we must just join with the UNC to beat the PNM. We are not about that,” the NTA leader said. “We are about good governance, not just removing the government.”
Griffith encouraged the electorate to select their next leader wisely.
He also urged voters to be wary of false promises and cosmetic alliances.
