Former finance minister Karen Nunez-Tesheira has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home after suffering a medical episode while appearing live on television on Thursday morning.
In a brief phone interview with Guardian Media yesterday, Nunez-Tesheira did not disclose details about what happened, but said she was doing well and resting.
“It’s fine with me though. Thank you very much. Now you know I’m doing well. I’m answering your questions,” she said.
“I am at home resting.”
Nunez-Tesheira also thanked members of the public who sent messages of support following the incident.
“Thank you so much. All the good wishes I got from people, I did appreciate it. Genuinely, I did appreciate it,” she said.
Nunez-Tesheira was a guest on Conversations with Zelisa on Real TV when the medical emergency occurred at the station’s San Juan studios shortly after 10.20 am on Thursday.
Host and Executive Producer of Conversations with Zelisa, and CEO of Real TV, Zelisa Boodoosingh, said Nunez-Tesheira was answering a question about her role as a woman in Parliament when she fell silent and slumped back in her chair.
Boodoosingh said staff immediately moved to assist and, after realising it would take some time for an ambulance to arrive, she accompanied Nunez-Tesheira to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. She said the former minister was initially unresponsive but later regained consciousness.
