A police officer assigned to the Inter-Agency Task Force and living at Greenvale, La Horquetta, was forced to open fire on two men as they attempted to steal his car yesterday morning.
Investigators said the officer was reportedly awakened by noises outside his bedroom window around 2.20 am and looked out to see two suspects in his front yard. An armed man, who was standing next to a light grey Hyundai Accent, in which the second suspect was seated, said, “Pull back your curtains or else I will kill yuh.”
The officer reached for his personal firearm and discharged several shots in the direction of the suspects as they attempted to drive off in his car.
As the car ran off the road and crashed into a drain on the eastern side of the road, the suspects took off running. The scene was processed and officers recovered a total of ten 9 mm spent shell casings. The officer’s car, which had bullet holes in the right driver’s side door, rear windscreen, and right-wing mirror, was later wrecked to the La Horquetta Police Station as police carried out their investigations.
