One man died after being shot by a police officer at the Aranguez Savannah, San Juan, on the weekend, while his accomplices fled the scene.
The 41-year-old officer was reportedly jogging with his son in the northern part of the Aranguez Savannah close to the Priority Bus Route (PBR) at 9.45 pm on Sunday, when they were confronted by three men.
Police said one of the men pointed a gun at the duo and announced a robbery, stating, “Ah boy, tonight is for allyuh. Gimme what allyuh have.”
However, drawing his licensed Glock, the officer reportedly fired several times in the direction of the suspects, hitting one of them in the chest.
As the injured man collapsed on the ground, one of the other men ran west along the PBR, while the third man ran north across the PBR towards Broome Street.
The authorities were alerted and officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force arrived and took the injured man to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was treated. However, he succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead. He remained unidentified up to yesterday.
