Heritage Petroleum is conducting clean-up operations in the Gulf of Paria following an oil spill off Fullerton Beach in Cedros which has grounded over 30 boats and affected more than 100 fishermen.
Fishermen first observed the oil stains on their ropes and boats around 6 pm on Wednesday.
They reported the leak to Heritage and a clean-up crew was sent this morning.
However, fishermen are unsure when they will be able to return to the sea to ply their trade.
Complaining that it took months to be compensated for the last major oil spill, the fishermen are calling on Heritage to move swiftly with compensation.
