Po­lice are try­ing to es­tab­lish the de­tails of a shoot­ing in Champs Fleurs that led to the death of a Bel­mont man and the wound­ing of a woman ear­ly on Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said the woman was dri­ving her grey Toy­ota Rav4 on Daniel Dri­ve, off Mendez Dri­ve, at around mid­night when a white Nis­san Wag­on drove on­to the road, block­ing her path.

Two gun­men got out of the car and re­port­ed­ly shot at her ve­hi­cle, be­fore shoot­ing at an­oth­er car be­hind her.

How­ev­er, the dri­ver of this ve­hi­cle a prison of­fi­cer, pulled out his li­censed pis­tol and shot at the gun­men, killing one in­stant­ly, as the oth­er ran away.

Po­lice said the dead sus­pect was iden­ti­fied as a man from Bel­mont and a Tau­rus pis­tol with 11 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion found near­by.

The wound­ed woman was tak­en to hos­pi­tal and is said to be in se­ri­ous but sta­ble con­di­tion, hav­ing been shot in her face.

Po­lice said 19 spent 9 mm shells were found at the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors sus­pect the mo­tive for the shoot­ing may have been an at­tempt­ed rob­bery.
