Despite having a robbery at one of their outlets, the management of Palki Indian Restaurant says they are not discouraged by criminality and vows to continue business, serving the public.
Police said two men entered the business on Long Circular Road, around 12.30 pm on Wednesday and handed a note to a waitress.
Written on the note was a threat to the waitress and demands for her to hand over cash and valuables.
The bandits stole $1000 from the cash register which represented the day’s sales, two cellphones and an Apple iPad before running away.
Officers of the St Clair CID were called in and viewed security camera footage of the robbery.
Contacted for comment on Thursday, co-owner one of the restaurant’s co-owners Vashti Paray-Singh said the restaurant was closed early on Wednesday and Thursday to facilitate police officers as they continued their investigation.
Paray-Singh said the worker was sent home early, noting that she had no problem offering counselling if she was traumatised.
“She did the correct thing, by giving them what she had to give them and complying. The faster they leave the place it’s better for you.
“It’s 25 years we have these restaurants and it makes you feel uncomfortable and a little wary of people now, but you don’t let these experiences bar you from doing business, because you still have to deal with the public.”
Paray-Singh said she understood the trauma of crime as she herself was robbed at gunpoint years ago.
On January 19, a man robbed a Chaguanas member’s club when he passed a threatening note to an employee where he threatened to bomb the businessplace if she did not give him the cash.
