"A whole day wasted."

This was how one mother described the situation this morning as she took her son back home after realising that teachers were a no-show at the Richmond Street Boys' Anglican School on the first day back out.

She was one of many parents who resorted to taking their children back home due to the lack of supervision.

Although the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) called for teachers to “rest and reflect” today, one parent said she was not given official notice from the school.

“I know they want their money, I know they worked for their money but, it’s at the children’s expense,” Chrissy, the mother of a standard three student commented.

When Guardian Media Ltd visited the nearby Sacred Heart Boys’ Roman Catholic School we were told that only three teachers had showed up to school.
