Shortly after all motorists were granted access to the Priority Bus Route on Wednesday morning, that access has been revoked to allow for normal operations on the PBR.
No detailed explanation was given for the opening of the PBR, nor its closure. However, an emailed press release from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to media houses at 8am said “Due to unforeseen circumstances encountered this morning, motorists currently on the PBR will be given an opportunity to exit the route. As such, normal PBR operations will resume at 8.00am sharp.”
Asked for clarity, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour told Guardian Media via whatsapp that a pole was obstructing part of the highway, resulting in the PBR’s opening. He explained, “the westbound lane by Macoya was blocked earlier; however, the highway is now clear, and the PBR has resumed normal operations.”
